Formerly Henderson Park Farm Retreat, Hedlow Retreat sits on 14 hectares of lush hinterland scenery, on the banks of the Hedlow Creek just 25 minutes drive from Rockhampton.
With a spectacular backdrop of volcanic plugs, expansive grounds and large deck overlooking the picturesque creek, Hedlow Retreat is a feast for the senses. We pull into the wide drive, passing paddocks of cattle grazing. At the turnoff for Hedlow Retreat, we pass the previous owners and wave. They’ve sold the property to focus on the commercial farm business – I’m sure keeping both working well is a lot for a young family. The new owners at Hedlow Retreat have kept the country charm, and created a space perfect for large groups and family getaways.
Hedlow Retreat is fully self-contained, and facilities include a well-equipped indoor kitchen complete with an oven and cooktop, as well as a BBQ outdoors. All the crockery and utensils you might need are in the kitchens, and you can pre-order a BBQ and breakfast pack which will be in the frige when you arrive. There are four rooms in the main lodge, all sleeping 2-4 guests per room, and each with a private ensuite bathroom. Each room has access to one of two kitchens, and the huge deck is shared for all rooms. There are also two small cottages set away from the main lodge, perfect for couples or those who prefer their privacy.

You can do as much or as little as you like here, with plenty of bushwalks, kayaks for use and if you bring your fishing gear you can fish right off the dock in the Hedlow Creek. If you prefer something a little quieter, simply soak up the peace and quite and watch the birds from the large deck area. Hedlow Retreat is a gorgeous spot, and the perfect base for exploring Rockhampton and beyond. I highly recommend a visit to the near by Capricorn Caves!
Getting here: Flights to Rockhampton operate daily from Brisbane, connecting to all major cities around Australia. I highly recommend you pick up a hire car on arrival at Rockhampton Airport, you won’t see much of the area without one!
I stayed at Hedlow Retreat as a guest of Capricorn Enterprise and Southern Great Barrier Reef Tourism. Views are all my own.
